no, very few dogs can do this type of work

MrTrajan69 March 11, 2010 at 10:54 pm

I had heard the military stopped using Dobes because they weren’t well suited for colder climates of Korea and Germany. They were great in the Pacific and are the marines mascot. Very intelligent dogs. My buddy would loan his Dobes to the MP’s when they needed to sniff out drugs and other items. Cheers

WildB0i March 12, 2010 at 12:57 am

@laosuwan

haha you’re a fool, are you a hair dresser or something? what style of haircut do you have? i hope it’s not one of those modern “emo” haircuts, because those haircuts look suitable for women too ;-)

laosuwan March 12, 2010 at 1:19 am

@WildB0i

Forgot to mention, notice how the manstopper red dobe becomes agressive when the guy takes his hat off, but ceases its agression when the guy puts his hat back on to cover up the bad haircut?

laosuwan March 12, 2010 at 1:21 am

Well, I would define a bad haircut as 0.15 of this video. Its a classic Australian “Jerry Lewis Nutty Professor” salad bowel crop. Although he does sound a bit like a Scotsman escapee from a mental institution. But I guess that’s professions dog trainer jargon he’s spouting.

Even Aussies know they are the land of bad haircuts, check out Youtube Search for

The Chaser’s WOE (S2): The CIO Tackles Haircuts

@laosuwan

I’m Australian and have a nice haircut, so whats you’re way of defining a “BAD” haircut and what haircut do you have? hahaha

laosuwan March 12, 2010 at 1:57 am

Australia; Home of the bad haircuts

That last dobe is SCARY!

Working line German Shepherd or Malinois. Other breeds are just substitutes. Are either too large or too small. Do not have a prey drive at a high level or not cooperate with the man. Of course there are individuals of other races but …. It is a pity to waste time and money. The dog has to catch but also fast on command. Obedience, protection, tracking. Other breeds can only dream of such universality as gsd or Malinois.

if i tap my dobermans side he attacks he wont back down

ShesCrazyBeautiful March 12, 2010 at 3:36 am

oh ok so he’s still a pretty big boy then. I’m not the biggest person so anything 100lbs or more is big to me

joeybraveheart March 12, 2010 at 3:44 am

this kinda ex. need agresive instincts … u may find an agressive or dominant setter , but its not his instinct , so he cant this work

TuttiOfruti March 12, 2010 at 3:56 am

@joeybraveheart
i think its not agresiveness but dominance maybe… but there are some setters that are VERY dominant, which is not a common in setters but there are dogs like that… i mean can you use those dogs?

joeybraveheart March 12, 2010 at 4:40 am

no u cant , u need to have the agressive instinct , same time u can use these dogs as friendly pets …its up to u how u raise ur dog , thats why people go for agressive dog cz they go both ways , but a friendly dog like a setter cant be agressive and learn to protect

joeybraveheart March 12, 2010 at 5:32 am

why?

stormycliffs March 12, 2010 at 6:06 am

nope, only bright guard dog breeds such as GSD, dobe, rott, belgian malinois, etc combination of discipline, large size and attack ability.

rathy21 March 12, 2010 at 6:55 am

they are not as tall as bull mastiffs but they are twice as wide and its head can grow to be 36″ around its got the largest head in the canine world mines the same size as a rottie but his only 1 year so he still got growing to do his about 10st now but full grown they average at about 15-16st they are not fully grown until 2 years when there mature

ShesCrazyBeautiful March 12, 2010 at 6:58 am

@rathy21 is that like or as big as the bull mastiff?? I think that’s what my brother wants since i got a doberman he always has to try & outdo me lol

los19 March 12, 2010 at 7:46 am

Do you know why the military stopped using the Dobermans?

los19 March 12, 2010 at 7:49 am

That last doberman scares me big time! Dobermans are the BEST!!

MrsThrudy March 12, 2010 at 8:02 am
