I totaly agree Roti’s are excellent dogs BUT you should not own a roti as a first dog big mistake they are VERY head strong dogs and will push there luck my roti is trained well but is so naughty not in a bad way just very cheecky, rottis are also very inteligent and can learn if they want too like i sqaid NOT A RECOMMENED FIRST DOG

Great video and solid advice. Thanks!

I always found my first Rottweiler a beautiful and loyal companion – but he was always agressive to strangers because we had originally bought him as a gaurd dog. Its amazing how quickly they turn their guard down when they recongise the person is known to the family. Naturally well-mannered and friendly dogs.

the thing I would change about you, is that you’re a moron. the video was fine. good work.

canttalkshit March 11, 2010 at 4:35 am

one thing i would change about this video is that rottweilers have tons of energy way more than labs and other dogs

Just wanted to make another point. Just in case your vet tells you differently about pro-guard for Rotties. Look for somebody who’ll agree with you. You control the vaccines not the vet you tell them which one you want to use. I had to do a bit of hunting myself I found a great vet after listening to 3 others that didn’t agree. It helps to print out copies of all the info that you can find then bring it to your vet. If they disagree look for somebody else. Good luck !

@ROB No prob when you do get your Rottie I highly recommend using the ProGuard vaccine it’s a modified live vaccine that is proven to be the best for Rotties. It’s the best vaccine against Parvo. Since it’s a live vaccine it’ll protect your dog for the longest time compared to a dead vaccine. You can find all this on the Rottweiler forum. Look up Dr jean Dodds vaccination protocol most of the people on the Rottweiler forum go by this including me. It’ll save your dog from being over vaccinated

Another thing I wanted to point out, if you’re going to get your male Rottie fixed. Wait until he’s at least a year old. Forget about the 6 months that vets always say. If you get your Rottie fixed before a year his chances of getting bone cancer jumps 4x, he could also end up looking lanky, the growth plates will stay open longer then they should.. Sex hormones play a huge roll in the development. I have a 9 month old myself I’ll be getting him done at 13 months.

Rotties9292 March 11, 2010 at 5:51 am

@MillieTiasMummy Now he’s 17 weeks if my math is good. You need to socialize it NOW the 3 to 6 months of age is the crucial time to get your Rottie out. Some vets will say 6 months because they want the pup to have all it’s shots or it could catch something. Parvo is the big one that you have to worry about they can catch it from sniffing an infected dogs poo. If you want all the info you’re looking for I suggest joining the Rottweiler Discussion Forum you’ll get all your answers there.

glodo89 March 11, 2010 at 9:30 am

i have a 1 year old for and a 16 month pit and a yorkie and two cats in our house. the rot and the pit are both males and they all get along great. ive had the rot since he was 7 weeks and socializing was a very big part in his training. both of my “AGGRESSIVE BULLY DOGS” are great pets and awesome with ppl and kids
