If yours is a family that has a lot of responsibilities and not a lot of time to devote to a pet such as the amount that it takes for a dog or a cat, then having a bird is perfect, because as long as you do just a few things for them they are fine.

Like any other pet though there is a possibility that your bird can become sick, and since you probably won't spend near enough time with it to know it, it may be difficult to be aware of changes to it which would indicate sickness,. Luckily, there are a few things that you can do to make sure you are paying correct attention to your pet bird, and to make sure that you notice when they are sick.

One of the best ways to tell when your pet bird is sick is to listen for changes in their song. Singing for birds is an act of communication with their surroundings. Depending on the time of the day and how the bird is feeling it will make numerous sounds accordingly as you will see by paying attention to it. Some birds like to sing one song during the evening hours and another numerous song in the morning. Also, your bird might make noises when it sees you, or sees other members of the family.

There will be numerous sounds for all of their activities in the cage as well like changing the food and water. It will become your responsibility as a pet owner to take the time and understand these variations in your pet. This will allow you to know immediately when something is different. If your bird stops making the noises that they have always made, or makes new noises you have never heard before, they might be sick.

Like sounds, your bird will develop movements that you should be able to recognize. You will be able to notice changes in the birds activities in both the day and night hours as well as know by the bird patterns where it most likes to perch and hang out.

Being aware of this is important because if it has a sudden behavioral change like hanging out on the floor of the cage rather that it's favorite perch you will know that it is time to take notice and pay attention to the bird. Also, if it is moving much more than usual, and trying to fly out of the cage, it also might be sick, and there should be something done about it. Don't hesitate to take your bird to the vet if you are in doubt.

It appears that it is all about getting to know your bird, and the only method that you could truly accomplish that would be to spend a sprinkle of time in attending to it.
